Portable appliance testing, otherwise known as PAT testing, is vital to protect your business and its employees. Landlords are also responsible for ensuring the regular testing of all appliances they provide for their tenants. All portable appliances with a mains plug need electrical PAT testing. This is recommended to be done every 12months to ensure that the portable items remain in safe working order. In accordance with the Health & Safety At Work Act 1974, the new 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and your company’s Fire Risk Assessment, tests and inspections, the appliance or lead being tested is checked for a variety of faults. It either passes or fails and given a pass or fail sticker as appropriate. The items should also be given an appliance ID and a record kept in a log book.
